Kang Pla Fm

Period:
Triassic

Age Interval:
Upper Triassic (Middle Carnian to Lower Norian) (11)

Province:
Sukhothai Fold Belt

Lithology and Thickness

Clayey limestone. Mainly thin- to massive- bedded limestones with minor intercalated clastics. Thickness: 500 m; 76 m at reference section at Km 45.5 on the Rong Kwang – Ngao highway

Lithology Pattern:
Limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Pha Daeng Fm (conformably); It disconformably overlies the Permo-Triassic volcanics at Ban Pha Kho of the Long District.

Upper contact

Wang Chin Fm (conformably)

Regional extent

This formation is more widely distributed in the north (Long, Song, east of Ngao and Phayao areas) than in the south (Wang Chin area). Correlation: Pha Kan Formation (only east of Phayao, Ngao and Long areas) of Piyasin (1972, 1975) and Chonglakmani (1972, 1981), Khun Huai Ri formation (Chonglakmani and Tiyapun, 1985)
